How many types of drill bits are commonly used in machining micro parts?
Micro parts processing commonly used drill center drill, standard Fried Dough Twists drill, reaming drill, deep hole drill and countersink drill.
Center drilling: mainly used for hole positioning. Due to the small diameter of the cutting part, a higher speed should be selected for center drilling.
Standard Fried Dough Twists drill: the cutting part of the Fried Dough Twists drill consists of two main cutting edges, two auxiliary cutting edges, one horizontal edge and two spiral grooves. Due to the lack of fixtures to guide the drilling die, the drilling of the machining center is affected by the asymmetric cutting force on both edges, which can easily cause drilling gas release. Therefore, when machining precision parts, the two cutting edges of the drill bit must have high grinding accuracy (the two blades have the same length, the top angle is symmetrical with the centerline of the drill bit, or the center is drilled first, then the drill bit is used for drilling).
Standard reamer: Standard reamers typically have 3 to 4 main cutting edges. The cutting parts are made of high-speed steel or hard alloy. The structure includes a straight handle, a tapered handle, and a sleeve type. In small batch production, Fried Dough Twists drills are often modified as standard reaming drills.
Deep hole drill: When processing deep holes, the heat dissipation is poor, chip removal is difficult, and the rigidity of the drill rod is poor, which can easily damage the parts and cause the hole axis to deviate, thereby affecting processing accuracy and productivity. Therefore, deep hole drill is chosen.
Countersunk hole: Countersunk hole is mainly used for processing conical or flat bottomed countersunk holes. The main problem with spot facing machining is the vibration marks on the spot facing surface or cone. Therefore, in the process of gear shaving drilling, special attention should be paid to the correct selection of tool parameters and cutting amount.
When machining precision parts, it is very important to choose the appropriate drill bit for correct machining, otherwise it will damage the parts. To ensure machining quality, it is necessary to regularly check the lifespan of the drill bits that should be replaced in order to achieve efficient machining quality.
