Although this type of hard alloy material can also be machined, its cutting efficiency is often unacceptable. This is mainly because:
(1) As mentioned earlier, processing hard alloy materials such as titanium alloys requires high cutting forces or high torque spindles. However, the efficient high-speed CNC machine tool spindle torque used in HEM-HSM processing light alloy materials such as aluminum alloys is mostly less than 100Nm, generally less than 200Nm, and does not have the cutting ability to efficiently process titanium alloys and other hard alloy materials.
(2) As pointed out earlier, processing hard alloy materials such as titanium alloys generally only allows for lower cutting speeds, that is, only lower spindle speeds can be used. However, the high-efficiency high-speed CNC machine tool spindle speed range used by HEM-HSM for processing light alloy materials such as aluminum alloys is not suitable for the existing titanium alloy material processing technology requirements. Therefore, new requirements have been put forward for the design and manufacturing of multiple important CNC parts, including the structure, rigidity, dynamic characteristics, spindle and coordinate transmission, cooling system, tool to tool interface, and control system, for the HEM-HSM CNC machining machine tool used for processing HEM-HSM titanium alloy materials.
Overall, titanium alloy CNC machining machines require a relatively high level of craftsmanship compared to other materials. However, in terms of processing, its outstanding advantages are irreplaceable by other CNC machining machines.
